The Downtown Ambassadors and Clean Team

The Downtown Ambassadors and Clean Team – the men and women in bright red, are the Downtown Action Team’s eyes, ears, and hands throughout the district, making sure that Downtown’s visitors, workers and business owners enjoy a safe and clean environment.

The Ambassadors serve several roles in creating a welcoming, safe downtown, the first being as patrollers. Ambassadors patrol the entire BID providing on call assistance to merchants, deterring aggressive panhandling, and keeping an open line of communication open with Downtown Police, in order to quickly respond to potentially unsafe situations.

Ambassadors are also emissaries from DAT to citizens, conventioneers, and visitors. In this role, ambassadors provide directions, historical facts, and other information to those not familiar with the district. The Ambassador’s customer service duties also include serving as citizen and merchant escorts and providing social service outreach referrals to those in need of one of the district’s great shelters and aid centers.

Our Clean Team members are the hands that have made downtown cleaner. Clean Team duties include removing litter, debris, broken glass, and gum from our streets. They report graffiti, and also offer on call cleaning of district alcoves and sidewalks. They work on foot and on specialized equipment and work daily to make Downtown sparkle.
